SONS OF NORWAY FOUNDATION

OVERVIEW
Major Objectives:

  • Provide scholarships and promote cultural exchange
  • Promote Norwegian heritage activities
  • Support humanitarian causes

Governance.
The Sons of Norway Foundation is the charitable arm of the Sons of Norway.  The International Board of Directors, Sons of Norway appoints a board of governors and the staff of the home office in Minneapolis administers the work of the foundation.  This board serves without pay, so all funds donated go directly to the work of the foundation.

Contributions:
The Sons of Norway foundation welcomes contributions in support of its educational and charitable endeavors.  The Sons of Norway foundation welcomes applications and proposals toward endeavors which will preserve and promote the Norwegian heritage in the United States and the American heritage in Norway.

The Humanitarian Fund.
This fund offers emergency aid to our members, lodges and communities experiencing distress or disaster.  Over $100,000 was directed to the 911 disaster.  Over $300,000 was provided during the Red River flood in 1997.

Helping Hand to Children.
A new project, Helping Hand to Children, provides matching funds to lodges for mentoring or tutoring children.

A tax deductible 501 (c) (3) organization:
The Sons of Norway Foundation was established in 1966 for the purpose of collecting funds by bequests, donations and gifts to be used for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational endeavors in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans.  Contributions are accepted from individuals, Sons of Norway lodges, corporations and other organizations interested in supporting the goals and objectives of the Sons of Norway Foundation.  The Sons of Norway Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) organization.  Contributions are deductible on tax returns for United States residents.

The Sons of Norway Foundation gratefully acknowledges the patronage of His Majesty King Harald V.

SKJOLD LODGE'S FOUNDATION FOCUS:  Our lodge has a Foundation Director who coordinates our Foundation related activities.

Each year in October, we have a Foundation dinner with entertainment and a raffle to raise funds for the foundation.  Additionally, the lodge and lodge members donate to the foundation and often "target" the donation for specific purposes.

An "Acrobat" PDF file with the full details is located at the Sons of Norway website. <click here to download and view the entire document>  You will need the Acrobat reader on your PC and this does take a little time to download if you are on a dial in line - please be patient.
