TWO ACTIONS:

OCTOBER IS "FOUNDATION MONTH" AT SONS OF NORWAY and each lodge focuses on raising money for the Sons of Norway Foundation.

WE ASK YOU TO DO TWO (2) THINGS
1. DONATE TO THE SONS OF NORWAY FOUNDATION (Learn More Below).
2. COME TO OUR ANNUAL SKJOLD LODGE FOUNDATION MEETING

1. YOUR DONATION (See how to donate on the left)

Whether in the form of money to members who need our help because of a natural disaster, scholarships for students, or a grant given to a lodge or organization, your donation flows back into to the lives of Sons of Norway members.

One example was $6,720 of 2009 Foundation “Helping hands to children” grants awards which took many forms including:
*Lefse grills and krumkake irons to an elementary school in North Dakota
* Funding a summer bookmobile program in Montana
*Donating to a youth symphony “heritage through music program” in California
*Calculators and books for a special education math class in Maine
*A Norwegian culture program at a school in Minneapolis
*Encyclopedias and supplies for a school in Florida.
*And many more.

Your donation, small or large, is combined with the donations of others to help make people’s lives better.  See additional details below.

Skjold Lodge will match with an additional $500
Please consider donating to the Foundation in 2010 and help us meet our goal of $1,500 from our members.  If we do, the lodge will add another $500 for a total of $2,000.

2. ATTEND THE FOUNDATION  MEETING

No separate Foundation Banquet this year!
To make the event more affordable and the time more accessible to a greater number of members, we are eliminating the separate banquet usually held at  restaurant or banquet facility and changing our October meeting to a “Foundation Meeting” with a pot luck meal, and invite you to bring a dish to pass.

This is just like a regular lodge meeting but with a focus on the Sons of Norway Foundation

*Enjoy a great Pot Luck Meal
*Buy tickets and win raffle prizes

All profit from the raffle will be given to the Sons of Norway Foundation.
and of course your tax deductible donation goes directly to the Foundation.

While we hope you will attend the meeting, we encourage you to donate to the Sons Of Norway Foundation, especially those members who are not able to attend regular meetings.

SONS OF NORWAY FOUNDATION

THE FOUNDATION
The Sons of Norway Foundation was established in 1966 for the purpose of collecting funds by bequests, donations and gifts to be used for charitable, scientific, literary and educational endeavors in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans.

FOUNDATION BOARD OF GOVERNORS
This board serves without pay, so all funds donated go directly to the work of the foundation.

THE SONS OF NORWAY FOUNDATION HELPS PEOPLE

Whether it is donating money to victims of 911, people devastated by the floods in the Red River Valley, providing scholarships to assist worthy students, or a myriad of other worthwhile charitable activities, Sons of Norway Foundation helps people in need. In 2008, the Foundation recently gave grants to members whose homes had been damaged in the Iowa floods.

The foundation has awarded over 250 scholarships worth over $600,000.  In 2005, Skjold Lodge made one of its largest contributions to the Foundation and 2 people received bronze pins for their individual contributions.  The levels of membership are “Supporter”: $90, “Friend”: $180, “Patron”: $365, “Bronze Circle”: $1,000, “”Silver Circle”: $2,500, “Gold Circle”: $5,000, “Platinum Circle”: $10,000.  You can also donate lesser amounts, and any donation, in any amount, is appreciated.

Should you wish to specifically designate that the money go to the “Skjold Lodge Scholarship Fund”, please make that additional notation on your check.  Other specific designations can be made.  More details are available on our Foundation Page
