HOW TO GET THERE:
<CLICK HERE> to go to our Lodge Meetings Page for travel instructions.
Please join us for a catered
buffet, followed by an auction, bidding against members and guests to
win that special item.
Proceeds of the auction help pay for the production and distribution of our newsletter
"Skjold News".
The catered buffet is a modest $11.00 (about
the price of a sandwich and a soda) and includes herb roasted chicken,
roast beef, mostaccioli, salads and rolls. The meal
starts at 3:00 PM, followed by an opening welcome by Skjold Lodge
President, Mike Hanson, and then the auction.
Reservations, and checks payable to "Skjold Lodge", should be received
by September 16, 2011.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:
This is a fun event to help raise funds to defray the cost of
producing
and distributing our newsletter “Skjold News”.
Members purchase items throughout the year and donate them to the
auction. Items from Norway or with a Norwegian theme are
best, but any item is fine. A good rule of thumb is to ask
yourself,
“is this an item I would want
myself?” The items should be at least $15 in value.
NEW ITEMS ONLY PLEASE! We have had a few occasions where members have brought a used or "white elephant" items, not understanding that these should be
NEW, NICE, and SOMETHING YOU WOULD WANT FOR YOURSELF.
THIS IS A "BLIND RAFFLE"
- YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BIDDING ON - ONLY WHERE IT CAME FROM. That's part of the fun.
When you bring the item, it should be wrapped and indicate
WHERE it is
from (Norway; Austria; Stoughton, Wisconsin; Macys; etc.). The
wrapping is up to you. Some people put very fancy gifts in a
box and then wrap it with plain brown paper. Others use very
fancy wrapping. Part of the fun is that you really
don’t know what you are bidding on—only where it is
from and that it is at least worth $15. The packages are
opened after a winning bid. The bidding seems to pick up as
others see the nice items being won.
See some pictures below for wrapping ideas and what the evening is like.
NO RISK!
We hope you will keep your prize but later, at the end of the auction,
any person can return any prize if they are not satisfied with what they won. We want you to be happy with your prize.
We prefer that you do this at the end of the auction out of respect to the person who donated the gift.
IF YOU BID AND WIN SOMETHING YOU TRULY DO NOT WANT - WE WILL REFUND THE MONEY YOU BID FOR AND PAID FOR THE GIFT. This rarely happens, but should a member have donated a gift you truly do not want,
see the auctioneer at the end of the auction for a full refund.
We want you to have enjoyed your time with us, the fun of the
bidding, and the gift you worked so hard to win (and keep the other
person from outbidding you).
NOT ABLE TO COME, BUT YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP?
In the past, some members who wanted to support Skjold News, but were
unable to attend the benefit, sent a donation check instead.
Some of our out-of-city or out-of-state members have even mailed gifts
for the auction.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to help, we encourage you
to send a check in any amount,
payable to "Skjold Lodge”, to:

and
indicate on the check it is for
“Skjold
News”. We appreciate your help!!!
