SUMMER IN NORWAY: Lynne Sove Maxon

Lynn received a scholarship from the Sons of Norway to attend the International Summer School at Oslo University in 2005.  With her were about 500 other students from over 90 different countries joined Lynn at the Summer School.  Lynn's focus was on perfecting her Norwegian language skills and learning more about Norwegian culture.

While in Norway for the Summer School, Lynn also attended many festivities commemorating the dissolution of the Union with Sweden in 1905.  Most of her talk focused on this.  Lynn pointed out that in some of the smaller towns Norwegian independence from Sweden was hardly even celebrated.  Most of the celebrations took place in Oslo.  Lynn has a friend who is the fourth highest ranking member of the Norwegian Parliament, who invited Lynn and her husband Tom  to many of the important political events celebrating 1905. - Learn More.

STUDYING ABROAD IN NORWAY:
Anna Grinde in NorwayAnna Grinde shares her experiences at a folk high school (folkhøyskole) in Norway. -  Fresh eyes.  Fresh View.

It is always nice to share in the excitement of others, and especially so, when it is about Norway.

In 2008 Luther College student , Anna Grinde, presented a video she created about her time in Norway and what it was like to attend a Folk High School (Folkehøgskule).

When asked to give a presentation, here was Anna's reply:

"A short synopsis is a little hard, because I could talk forever about my awesome time in Norway. but basically I graduated from high school in 2006, and then decided I didn't really want to go to college right away.  My sister had gone to a Folk High School (Folkehøgskule) in Stavern Norway. I actually visited her there and kind of got to see what it was like, so I decided I wanted to do the same thing. These schools are just a year off experience, where you focus on one course" . Learn More.
