A SAMPLE OF OUR PROGRAMS: (we'll add to this list across time).
The programs vary greatly and each can make for an interesting evening.  We hope this list gives you some insight to the variety of programs we offer.

Do you like to give presentations and have an area of interest that we would enjoy?  Even if you are not a member, contact us if you have a topic of interest for us.  It could make for a fun evening for you and the lodge.

Examples of programs include:
Dr. Charles Peterson, Director of North Park University's Center for Scandinavian Studies.  Dr. Peterson often brings students from Norway who are studying at North Park University.

Paul Anderson, Honorary Consul General of Norway from Chicago.

Pastor of Minnekirken (The Norwegian Memorial Church in Chicago).

The Hon. Perry J. Gulbransen (Ret).  Judge Gulbransen is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Norwegian American Hospital and discussed "Modern Norwegian Culture".

"Norwegians in Hawaii--half way around the world"  about Norwegians working on sugar plantations in the 1800's.

"The Vikings in Newfoundland":  A Sons of Norway member read the "Saga of Eric the Red" and a narrative in the "Saga of Olaf Tryggvason" and then set out on a personal journey to see if she could follow the route mentioned in the sagas. She travels through Newfoundland to eventually find the location where Leif Erikson stayed.

"Nordkap", The North Cape of Norway

The Hurtigruten--The Norwegian Coastal Voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes and back.  Two members, dressed in their bunads, described their journey and shared a display of items from the trip.

"Norwegian Bingo" A fun variation on Bingo with a chance to learn some Norwegian words.

"Rail Trips in North America".

"Studying Abroad in Norway".  Luther College student , Anna Grinde, presented a video she created about her time in Norway and what it was like to attend a Folk High School (Folkehøgskule).

Cultural presentations have included:
The history and making of
Norwegian sweaters,
Norwegian Genealogy,
"
Christmas in Norway",
Norwegian foods  and demonstrations of how to make open faced sandwiches, lefse and krumkake as well as how to do rosemaling (Norwegian decorative painting).
"Runic Writing",
"Show and Tell",
where members displayed and discussed their families history and articles they brought to America.
The Viking Sagas.
Norwegian Folk Dances
(and the chance to try them yourself).
Norwegian Language for Travelers where we learned some basic words and phrases.

We've even had
Jim Oberweis, Chairman of Oberweis Dairies, present the history of ice cream (followed by eating some really good ice cream).  Mr. Oberweis was running for Governor of Illinois at the time.
