FRESH EYES FRESH VIEW.
It is always nice to share in the excitement of others, and especially so, when it is about Norway.
In 2008
Luther College student,
Anna Grinde,
presented a video she created about her time in Norway and what it was
like to attend a Folk High School (Folkehøgskule).
When asked to give a presentation, here was Anna's reply:
"A short synopsis is a little hard, because I could talk forever about
my awesome time in Norway. but basically I graduated from high school
in 2006, and then decided I didn't really want to go to college right
away. My sister had gone to a Folk High School
(Folkehøgskule) in Stavern Norway. I actually visited her there
and kind of got to see what it was like, so I decided I wanted to do
the same thing. These schools are just a year off experience, where you
focus on one course.
The course I chose was 'friluftsliv' or outdoor life. I was able to
take many camping trips, day trips and week long trips of hiking,
skiing, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, glacier climbing
and much, much more. There were 50 students in my school: 2 Americans
including me, 2 Dutch students, and the rest Norwegians. I became very
good friends with everyone.

My
school was in Seljord, which is right in the middle of Telemark, just 3
hours from Oslo. We were right in the mountains. It was an amazing
experience, and I recommend it for anyone not wanting to go straight to
college. I am now at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, just waiting to
get back to Norway".
Kind of makes you want to go back right now!
