October is Foundation Month Sons of Norway Foundation is the Sons of Norway outreach, humanitarian, and scholarship program. You can help the Foundation by contributing your loose change. Back by popular demand you will see our Ole & Lena "piggy" banks at lodge meetings. Some of you have been following the Foundation's guideline of saving a "penny a day" for the foundation. You can deposit the equivalent amount, or any amount you choose, in the banks while at any meeting. Ole & Lena will be happy to receive your donation for this month. Every penny adds up. The total donated, along with other monies we receive is forwarded to the Foundation in October. Out of the monies collected for the Foundation a percentage goes for Skjold's book scholarship. So, Let's keep a smile on Ole & Lena's faces. - Foundation director, Judy Torgersen
Congratulations to Rebekah Kronborg-Mogil. Rebekah received the Sons of Norway Skjold Lodge $350.00 book scholarship for 2004. - Foundation Director Judy Torgersen
The Kronborg-Mogil family enjoyed a "spring break" week at Gulf Shores in Alabama. The beach was beautiful, but unfortunately due to undercurrents and jellyfish, the 'red flag' for swimming was out for most of the week. An uncommonly strong wind (had Chicago beat!) and cool temperatures prevailed making sitting on the beach a challenge, so instead they turned to tennis and walks!
Barbra & Michael (Kronborg-Mogil) are celebrating in a big way with 3 graduations this June! Erika graduates from Elmhurst College with a degree in Primary Education. Rebekah graduates from Maine South High School. She will attend Illinois State University in the fall with plans to major in music education. Kelsey graduates from Emerson Middle School and will attend Maine South High School in the fall. Hip, Hip hurra!

long to include in its entirety in Skjold News. We are including Marilyn's lead in to her story. It gives you a sense of what a great trip it was. Those with Internet access can read the entire story at the Skjold Lodge web site by going to the "NEWS" page; "People" section; and clicking the link associated with Marilyn's story. Following is the beginning of Marilyn's article: "I traveled with my cousin and her church group, The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii on a pilgrimage to southern Italy. I had been to more northern parts of Italy several years ago and enjoyed it very much, but this was an offering that included a visit to Pompeii. This had been my secret life-long dream since I studied about this phenomenon in elementary school, and I couldn't resist. We left O'Hare for Milan, and then on to Rome. I love Rome and the Vatican, because these cities have so much to offer: journeying down the historical roads where legions of Roman soldiers once marched; symbols of unbelievable faith; magnificent art and architecture; delicious food; fun-loving people! Before and after our audience with the Pope in St. Peter's Square, we visited all of the "popular" destinations and many of lesser known importance. Of course, the Sistine Chapel was magnificent; the Coliseum awesome; the ruins of old Rome that spark the imagination; the many churches are testimonies of faith. During our four day visit in Rome we stayed at the Hotel Michelangelo where we could see the Dome of St. Peter's from our balcony, but also traveled to the quaint village of Assisi, the birthplace of it's well-known and saintly inhabitant, St. Francis, before leaving for our next temporary residence. Carolyn and Jon Satrum spent most of the month of May traveling in Austria by rail, bus and boat. This was a "pack light and carry it on your back" trip. Jon had 3 shirts and 2 pairs of slacks for the entire trip (lots of washing in the sink). With 2 of their friends, they toured Vienna, Innsbruck, and Salzburg, visiting quiet lakeside villages and mountain resorts en route. The scen (Continued on page 7)
