arrived Friday, March 26, 2004, at a healthy 8 pounds 6 ounces. Skjold member Steven Torgerson and his wife Virgie of Marengo are the proud grandparents, and their daughter Ingrid and her husband Sean Behan are the parents. A hearty velkommen to the world, Ashton!
We recently received word that one of our Golden Members, Joan Rygg, passed away in August, 2003, two months shy of age 79. For many years, Joan marched with the Chicago Sons of Norway Drill Team until it was disbanded.
We also received word that Mary Beth Haugen passed away March 28, 2004. She and her husband Fred were active members of Skjold for many years. Mary Beth was a long-time editor of Skjold News and served on the Skjold and the Fifth District Boards of Directors.

half of the lodge from 5th District Directors, Judy Torgersen and John Johnsen. The congratulations were for helping make the 5th & 6th sub-district officers' seminar sponsored by Skjold Lodge a great success. As host of the seminar, volunteers from Skjold Lodge arranged with the police for parking, set up the church the night before and got up very early for last minute arrangements. They also ordered catered food and baked lots of delicious cakes, cookies, and traditional items. All the extra effort and coordination by Skjold Lodge members was very much appreciated by the 5th District.
