Har Du Hørt by Anne Shabez

Skjold member Eva Sorensen offered some comments on the  recipe for rømmegrøt on page 7 of the July-August issue of Skjold News.  She has had it many times in Norway and suggests that the sugar be cut from 3/4 cup to 1/4 cup as she thinks it would be too sweet as is.  Thanks for the suggestion Eva.

In a letter from Skjold member
Irene Geerdts we learned more about her parents and their connection to Sons of Norway.  It reads as follows:
"Some of the older members of Skjold lodge will remember my mother and father who were active in their younger years.
My father,
Thor Skarsgor, is a Golden Lifetime member.  He will celebrate his 100th birthday on July 21.  He now resides at an assisted living facility in Glenview and is in good health.
My mother,
Olga Skarsgor, died this past February 2004, after complications from two broken hips.  She was 93 years old.
Mother and Dad both came from Norway, Dad from Haugesund in 1922, Mother from the island of Karmoy (off Haugesund) in 1926.  They met in Chicago at one of the many Norwegian Lodge doings and were married for 73 years.
They had many friends in the Norwegian community.  Dad also sang with the Norwegian-American Glee Club and was a member of Karmsend.  They moved from Chicago to Wilmette and then to Morton Grove.
I thought perhaps some Skjold members would remember my parents and want to know about mom's death and dad's "milestone" in life.
Both my brother, Edwin, and myself, inherited a great pride in our Norwegian heritage from our parents.  We still have a big family living in various parts of Norway".

Tordis and Gene Kaczmarek made a special trip to the Island of Oahu, Hawaii, in June to attend a wedding.  The wedding took place on the beach with a Hawaiian lady minister performing the ceremony assisted by two male attendants.  It was very interesting!  Gene's son, Dennis, who has been living and working in Tokyo, Japan, for the past five years flew in to be with the family and attend the wedding.
Prior to the wedding, Gene and Tordis did

some sightseeing, visiting Hickam Air Force Base and Pearl Harbor.  Back at the hotel on Waikiki Beach they enjoyed a Polynesian revue one evening and a luau the following evening.  It was all very exciting, but they were glad to get back home.
