300-500 families, friends, and neighbors attended this year's Skjold Lodge Heritage Festival! Three great articles in the Herald contributed to this wonderful turnout and the Herald had a reporter and photographer present to interview participants. Traditional Norwegian craft and food demonstrations included: woodcarving, Hardanger embroidery, rosemaling, flatbrod, krumkake, and lefse. The Vesterheim museum was represented, and there were tables of Scandinavian goods for sale. Our membership table was busy, and new members will be a welcome by-product of this year's fest. Another great draw was a raffle, with several lovely donated prizes. Entertainment was lively and well appreciated. Ray Nilsen's accordion music got the crowd up and dancing. The crowd also enjoyed performances by The Leikarringen Norwegian Folk Dancers and Grieg Ladies Singing Society. The Bake Sale was a resounding success. Skjold Lodge members generously donated all types of traditional treats

and we could hardly keep up with the demand for delicious refreshments of lefse, polse, waffles with lingonberry sauce, hot cider and coffee, as well as krumkake, lefse, and flatbrod. This year we added a Children's Room, which had special children's activities such as art projects, and a scavenger hunt with prizes; families with children especially enjoyed this room. A heartfelt thank you to all the people who volunteered their time and help in planning, donating goods and services, helping to set up and take-down, and in general making this one of the most successful Heritage Fests given by the Skjold Lodge.
- A big thank you to Jean and Lewis Bowles, Cultural Directors, and all on their committee, who worked so hard in planning and execution to make this a success!
