Har Du Hørt by Anne Shabez

Sara and Duane Miller (Sara is a long distance member from Powell, WY) are
the proud grandparents of Jackson Robert Rieb, born September 17th, 2004 in
Seattle, Washington.  Their grandson weighed 7 lbs, 3 oz. and was 19 ½ in.
long.  Proud parents are Lisa and Nathan Rieb.  Big sister is Julia, who is
one of our junior Heritage members.  He was named after Jackson Lake in
Teton National Park in Wyoming, where his parents were engaged.  Robert is
Nathan's father's middle name and also Lisa's late Grandpa Carlsen's first
name.  Robert Carlsen was a first generation Norwegian/American.  Other
grandparents are Stan and Heidi Rieb and great grandmas are Evelyn (Robert)
Carlsen and Lucille Miller, all from Wyoming.  Jackson is welcomed by many aunts,

uncles and cousins as well as great aunts Robbie Nemeth, Tina Cederquist, and Carol Carlsen, all members of Skjold.  Congratulations!

Several people wanted more information about the talk
Kate Bilodeau gave at our February "Norwegian Sweater Night" lodge meeting.  The references Kate used in her talk about Norwegian Sweaters were:

The Complete Book of Traditional Scandinavian Knitting by Sheila McGregor
       Dewey Decimal #746.432
Scandinavian Knitwear by Alice Stamore
        Dewey Decimal #746.432

Both books are available at the Mount Prospect Library.

TUBFRIM-by Marian Seaholm

NEVER THROW AWAY USED STAMPS
(we need old expired telephone cards too)

TUBFRIM is a humanitarian organization owned by the Norwegian Health Service.  Used postage stamps are collected, packaged and resold to wholesalers and philatelists world wide.  The profits earned from these activities are used to provide care and aid to handicapped children.

When TUBFRIM was founded in 1928, the objective was to help finance research into tuberculosis and to aid children inflicted by the disease.  As this particular disease has almost been eradicated, the objective has been modified, and today the profits provide financial aid for the Society for Health and Development of Retarded Children and Youth.

Launched more than 70 years ago, TUBFRIM has helped thousands of disabled children by selling cancelled postage stamps to collectors and dealers, and donating the profits to the Norwegian Health Association.  TUBFRIM, founded by Norwegian postmaster Ditlef Frantzen, raised 1,500 NOK in its first year. Currently, over 4,000 pounds of stamps are sold for more than 500,000 NOK (more than $57,000 U.S.). Sons of Norway members have been strengthening the TUBFRIM program for more than 40 years, and currently account for more than 20% of the profits.  As a result, Sons of Norway has come to the aid of countless handicapped children.

PERFECT CLIP TIPS
A little extra work on your part helps everyone.  When clipping stamps, please remember to leave at least a quarter inch of paper around the edges.  No damaged stamps, no stamps with extra paper on the back, no pre-stamped or metered stamps, no stamps with more than 1/4 to 1/2 inch borders.

Damaged stamps cannot be sold. Metered mail, bulk mail and non-profit mail postage are not useful.  We are also happy to receive stamp collections, commemorative envelopes, first day covers and postcards.  If more than 50 years old, please do not remove stamps, but send us the entire item.

A big "Thank You" to all who have been saving stamps.
