At our October meeting, we will have a pot luck dinner, starting at 6:30 pm, followed by our lodge meeting and initiation of new members. 

In November, we will elect officers for the next year.  The nominating committee, Marilyn Lien as Chairperson, was selected at the August meeting.  The committee has a slate of officers to be voted on by the membership at the November meeting.  The floor will also be open for nominations.  Please read more about the election of officers on page 7.

Mark your calendar for November 12^th. Skjold Lodge will sponsor an "Introduction to Norwegian Genealogy" at the Mount Prospect Library from 10:00 am to 12 pm.

Please note that the meeting date for our regular November meeting has been changed to November 18^th due to Thanksgiving. 

Don't forget the Skjold Lodge Annual Heritage Fest on November 20^th.  Plan on attending this event and volunteering some of your time to help make this fest successful!  Last year we had over 400 attendees and we're anticipating more this year!  Read more about this event

on page 4.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 17^th.  The lodge will celebrate Christmas at the Mount Prospect Golf Club.  Refer to page 5 for more details.

Please remember to submit your annual volunteer member services sheet to Anne Shabez by early January.  You received a copy with your May-June newsletter.  It is also available on-line at the Sons of Norway web site.

Mark your calendar for January 19, 2006, at 7:00PM for the Skjold Building Society meeting.  See page 3.

I can't believe that summer is gone and fall is upon us!  Before you know it, the holiday season will be here.  I hope you all enjoyed your summer vacations.

Early in September, our lodge participated at Scandinavian Day, VASA Park and sold lefse and polse, coffee, etc.  We also had a membership table and met with a number of potential members.  It was nice to have members join us at the booth and enjoy the friendship.  Thanks to Rick Severson for heading up this event and to all the lodge members who volunteered. 

In September, the Skjold News Benefit Auction was conducted.  Those in attendance feasted on a homemade Italian supper.  Thanks to all lodge members and guests for attending the benefit and bringing auction items.  I hope you all enjoy your gifts!  Thank you to Ron Bentsen, our auctioneer, Kate Bilodeau, event coordinator and to all those who made the evening a success.  There is still time to make a cash donation to the newsletter.  Please send your donations to Skjold Lodge, P.O. Box 1364, Arlington Heights, IL  60006, and indicate on the check that the monies are for the newsletter.
