September 23. Skjold News Benefit. The annual supper and auction to benefit the lodge newsletter will take place in the St. Mark Lutheran Church Hospitality Room in Mt. Prospect. The price is $12 for an Italian supper. Supper begins at 6:30PM, followed by an opening welcome by Skjold Lodge President, Carol Ann Carlsen and then the auction. See page 6.

October 8. 10 AM - 4 PM - The Norwegian National League is hosting the 2005 Leif Erikson Day celebration at the Des Plaines Library. The Bjørnson Male Chorus
will be singing; Dr. Charles Peterson will be speaking; there will be Viking games, storytelling and crafts for the kids, cultural displays, dancing, music, and snacks and kringle - all free. All provided by the members of local Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Icelandic organizations.

October 9. The traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Leif Erikson statue in Humboldt Park will be on Sunday Oct. 9 at 1:00 PM, with refreshments following at nearby Minnekirken.
