Happy New Year!

A big thank you goes out to Kate Bilodeau for organizing the "Introduction to Norwegian Genealogy" at the Mount Prospect Library.  The seminar was conducted by an expert from the Vesterheim Genealogical Center in Madison, Wisconsin and the attendance was fantastic!

Another thank you goes out to Kate for organizing the 15th Annual Heritage Fest. The bake sale was financially very successful and we had an estimated 400 attendees.  Those of us on the committee and all the volunteers put in a lot of time and effort, but it was Kate who pulled it all together.

Every year, Sons of Norway sends the lodge volunteer forms for each of its members.  Members were sent a form as part of the May-June, 2005 newsletter.  Please make sure that you complete your form and turn it in by the end of January.  The information you supply is turned in with our Lodge Annual Report to Sons of Norway.  Please bring your form to the January meeting or send it to the lodge at the address listed on the front page of this newsletter.  If you have misplaced your form, you may pick one up at the January meeting or by calling me for a copy.

As we start this new year, please read about the various scholarships available to you, your children, your grandchildren, and nieces and nephews on page 4.

To avoid board and lodge meetings in

the same week and to avoid holiday conflicts, our meeting schedule in 2006 is slightly different.  Note the meeting dates on page 8.  A full schedule will be in the March-April Newsletter.

Thank you to all of you who have supported the lodge this past year by bringing desserts to share at our meetings, participating in our pot-luck dinners, and for coming early and staying late to help set up/clean up for our meetings.  We hope to get more of you to volunteer to help out next year.  We all belong to the lodge and we should support our fellow members with their tasks.

As always, the lodge is open to any suggestions members might have for imporvement.  Should you have any questions or concerns, etc., do not hesitate to contact me (847-362-8030 or cacarlsen@hotmail.com).

Tusen Takk goes out to all of you who have given me support this past year as President of the lodge.  I've learned a lot from you and will continue to learn much more in the coming year!

Hilsen,
Carol Ann Carlsen
President

Carol Ann Carlsen

I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and will have the Happiest New Year!

The year 2005 came to an end rather quickly.  We have new members this year who have already helped out with several events.  The way to get to know your fellow lodge members is to get involved.  Yes, it is work, but it is also a lot of fun.

At our October meeting, we had our pot luck dinner and initiation of new members.  Members initiated at this time were:  Susan Miller, Solveig Bender, Judy Bernard, Ron Grand, and John Halversen.  We welcome you into our lodge!

Thanks to the Nominating Committee (Marilyn Lien, Chairperson, Harold Hagenson, Jim Severson, Anne Shabez, and Judy Torgersen), we conducted our election for officers at our November meeting.  Our new Board of Directors  will be installed at our January 2006 lodge meeting, along with the remaining officers. The remaining officers will be appointed by the President and it is not mandatory for appointed officers to attend Board meetings.  The election results are on page 7.
