Skjold Lodge Elections
By Marilyn Cafferata Lien
Chairman of the Nominating Committee
As reported in the November-December newsletter, a special committee was formed to discuss reducing the number of officers to ten for the year 2006.  These 10 officers would serve as the Board of Directors for the Lodge.  The remaining officers would then be appointed by the President and will not have to attend Board Meetings.  As in the past, these appointed positions have always been and will continue to be vital to our lodge.  At the November Lodge meeting this issue was voted on and accepted as a temporary change for 2006.  The new Board of Directors for the lodge are:

President:  Carol Ann Carlsen
Vice President:  Greg LeDuc
Financial Secretary:  Don Lien
Treasurer: Liz Gallanis
Social Director: Marilyn Lien
Cultural Director: Kate Bilodeau
Foundation Director:  Don Miller
News Editor:  Jon Satrum
Counselor*: Open
Secretary**: Greg LeDuc

*  The office of Counselor has not been filled for the year 2006.  Our lodge will work without this position on a temporary basis.

**Greg LeDuc will hold two offices this year; Vice President and Secretary.  This issue was discussed at the November lodge meeting.  It does not follow our lodge by-laws, however, the Nominating Committee could not find anyone to take this position, nor were there any nominations from the floor to fill this position.  For the year 2006, we will allow an officer to hold two positions.

The " Sparkstotting" , or kicksled is a popular form of transportation and fun during the snowy winter months in Norway.  They are useful on icy surfaces as well as snowy.  Look for them in school parking lots, in front of stores, or at ski hills  -- just as we lock our bikes, "spark" owners in Norway do the same.  The seat on the sled can be used for a passenger, school bags, or shopping sacks.  Easy to use (one kicks in the same way as classic skiing) all ages can be seen using them, however according to one source, less by teenagers who do not consider it to be a "cool" activity!
