Har Du Hørt

Carolyn and Jon Satrum traveled to Indiana and Ohio visiting relatives and working on their genealogy projects.  In September, they attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Jon's cousin, Mary, and her husband Gene.  Gene, Mary, Carolyn and Jon traveled together to Trønderlag last fall visiting relatives and friends there.

September was a busy month for
Ted and Judy Torgersen with visitors from Norway. As Judy says, "the swinging door was activated".  First there were relatives from Tysnes, a cousin and his wife.  After their stay there was  just enough time to wash the sheets and  get ready for another cousin and his wife from Oslo (originally from Stavanger). All of Ted and Judy's guests seemed to love Chicago with all those tall buildings. Judy and Ted are sure they will return again.

Kaczmarek who coordinated the evening and to all our members who came out on a stormy night, brought gifts for, and participated in, our auction.

October was busy as well.  October 7th was Leif Erikson Day at the Elmhurst Library.  We hope you had a chance to attend those activities and also the wreath laying at the statue of Leif Erikson in Humboldt Park on the 8th.  On October 14th there was a fish boil at Scandinavian Park in Elgin and on October 27th our lodge meeting started with a pot luck supper followed by our business meeting and evening program of "Norwegian Bingo".   The bingo evening is always a fun time.

Looking for more to do?  Don't forget Polar Star's Høstfest on November 12.  See the details on Page 5.

Skjold News Benefit -
by Gene Kaczmarek

It was a cold wet evening the night of September 22, with very heavy rain, blowing winds and a tornado reported in the area.  It didn't look very promising for the Skjold News Benefit, but Skjold members and guests turned out in large numbers to make this a very successful evening.  Our members were very generous in bringing parcels for the auction.  We extend special thanks to our fabulous auctioneer, Michael Hanson, and to the committee of workers and members who helped set up and tear down the room to make this a very complete evening.  Tusen Takk to all.

Gene and Tordis Kaczmarek
Co-Chairpersons, Skjold News Benefit.
