Polar Star lodge's annual Høstfest(fall festival) "Taste Of Norway" is Sunday, November 12 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 1233 Douglas Road, Montgomery, Illinois, starting at 2:00P.M. Taste not only Norway's delicacies, but also partake of the tastes of its culture, literature, music, language and folklore. Experience the spirit of Norway.

The 2006 Leif Erikson Fest at the Elmhurst Public Library on Oct. 7 was a very successful event. The Norwegian National League made many new friends.
Refreshments were donated by Wikstrom's Deli in Andersonville, Tre Kroner Restaurant in Chicago, Kirsten's Danish Bakery in Burr Ridge, Iversen's Bakery in Blue Island, and the National League. All delicious and free.
Entertainment was donated by Ray Nilsen on accordion, Normennenes Singing Society, Chicago Swedish Male Chorus, Earl's Pearls (Danish), and Lee Hoofnagle and Sara Gmitro playing Finnish Kanteles. Lorraine Straw and Roy Roe showed and did commentary on the WTTW video on the "Viking Ship", Karen Abercrombie of the Swedish Museum in Andersonville spoke, and David Nordin greeted visitors all day as a Swedish Viking. Tom Maxson was the M.C. in a bunad.
Mariann Erlenbach, Carol Hoidahl, Lorraine Straw, and Joni Shaw taught the kids Viking crafts, and Lynn Sove Maxson and Elizabeth Fjortoft told Scandinavian stories to the children.
If you missed it, you really missed a lot.

Velkommen! I want to thank everyone for helping with, and attending, the Skjold News Benefit! Gregg and Gene have already commented earlier in the newsletter, but I wanted to add my thanks to Gene & Tordis Kazcmarek for their fantastic planning and to Mike Hanson for his great job as our auctioneer.
