SONS OF NORWAY *SONS OF NORWAY HEADQUARTERS To date, Sons of Norway Foundation has awarded over 2,000 scholarships to our members, lodges and their communities.
The October, 2005 issue of Viking magazine, starting on page 24, did an excellent job of describing the scholarships available from Sons of Norway and how they help the recipients. These are important scholarships (Example: The Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial scholarship could be as much as 1 year's tuition). All 5 of these scholarships have an application deadline of March 1. *SKJOLD LODGE Skjold Lodge offers the "Barney Jacobson Memorial Scholarship" (originally known as the Skjold Lodge Book Scholarship). This $350 scholarship is for study at a college or technical school and is available to members of Skjold Lodge or those related to members (parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle). The application deadline is May 1. Contact our Foundation Director or any officer or details.
*DISTRICT 5 Book Scholarships (2- $300 book scholarships offered). One is the Cyril K. Wittrock Book Scholarship, funded by Skjold Lodge in memory of Cy Wittrock. Deadline: March 15, 2007. International Summer School (6 weeks in Norway) 1- $1,000 scholarship offered. Deadline: March 15, 2007.
Folk High School Scholarships: The 5th District also has 2 $500 Folk High School Scholarships available.
In addition to scholarships, District 5 also has matching funds available for Heritage Camp.

NORWEGIAN NATIONAL LEAGUE One objective of the Norwegian National League is to encourage children to investigate and learn about our rich cultural heritage. Scholarships and cash prizes are available to children of Norwegian descent residing in the counties of Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, McHenry and Will for award winning essays and drawings.
There are four scholarship categories:
High School senior : $1,000 (sent directly to College or University) Qualifications: acceptance at a college or university; minimum 3.0 GPA; submit a 500 word original essay on a Norwegian topic. High School freshman through junior: $100. Qualifications: submit a 300 word original essay on a Norwegian topic. Fifth through eighth grade: $50. Qualifications: submit a 300 word original essay on a Norwegian topic. First through fourth grade: $25. Qualifications: submit an original hand drawn picture of a Norwegian topic.
The deadline for NNL scholarship applications has historically been March 15.
The NNL Scholarship Committee is redesigning the information on the body of the applications. When you look at the NNL website in January, it will have the latest information.

The annual meeting of the Skjold Building Society will be held at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3839 W. Frontage Road Palatine, Illinois, on Thursday, January 11, 2007, at 7:30PM. The agenda will include a financial report, mission statement, by-law changes, election of officers, and general discussion. All members of Skjold Lodge are now also members of Skjold Building Society and can vote at the annual meeting. The Skjold Building Society was initially created to own property for the lodge and to provide a meeting location for the lodge. For more information, please call Jostein Bakken at 847-526-6486.
