Royal D. Haugsness
When our January/February copy of Skjold News was returned by Holy Family Health Center in Des Plaines, we learned that our member, Royal D. Haugsness had died in 2004.  We called  the Holy Family and spoke with Del, the admitting person, who said that Royal had passed away in November, 2004.

Del will call the daughter and ask her to call us.  Del said she had known Royal well, and that at the center they called him "His Royal Highness".

Royal was a Life Member who joined in

SOCIAL SNAKK (AND OTHER GOOD STUFF)

SOCIAL SNAKK
Lorrie Brenner
We've been weathering the storms (with snow sports getting their patience rewarded!) and looking forward to spring now!! When you come to our March meeting, please feel free to bring any knitting and crocheting materials you have and be ready to learn or refresh your memories on stitches and techniques. If you would like to display pieces you have made along the way, bring them - we would love to see them!! Until then, may peace, health, prosperity and happiness be with you. Takk!

Upcoming meetings include:
March 23, @ 7:30pm Knitting Demonstration / Treats & Beverages
April 27, @ 6:30pm Pot Luck ~ Installation of New Members & Rosemaling Demonstration
May 25, @ 7:30pm Norwegian Knives Demonstration / Treats & Beverages.  This is also "Troll Night" where all ages are encouraged to bring their troll dolls, stories, you name it, to put on display, like sweater night when people wear their Norwegian sweaters. If you want to dress up like a troll, that would be fun too!  Anything "troll like" is fair game.

The Skjold Lodge Pancake Breakfast was held on Saturday, February 24th. Despite inclement weather, 30 people attended and received royal treatment, with pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, cinnamon rolls, delicious casseroles, orange juice, milk and loads of coffee!! Thank you for all that showed up and for the kitchen help ~ everyone had a really nice time! We are happy to announce that our energetic young raffler / Assistant Marshall,

Jimmy Tarbet has filled out an official new member form and will be installed at our April 27th meeting! At the last Board Meeting, I presented the idea of a "New Member BBQ" on Saturday, June 23rd, which will be brought up for approval at the March 23rd meeting.

LAUGHS FROM THE LIBRARIAN
Lorrie Brenner
Starting JOKE: Sven & Ole were several hours late for the opening of the Norsk Hostfest. Their excuse? "About every 50 miles we saw signs that said, 'clean restrooms' ".

As librarian, I am in the midst of putting together a list of the book titles / authors, pamphlets, videos and dates of the lodge historical documents / pictures available to borrow from our library. Once completed, I would like to have it printed up as an insert for the May/June edition of our newsletter so that everyone will know what we have to offer.

Ending
JOKE: Do you know what they asked Ole when he called the urology department at the clinic? They said, "Can you hold?".

BABYSITTING BABBLE
Karli & Bill Barber
Children are our blossoming future - we highly encourage families with children of all ages to come to our meetings and events. Undeniably, youth brings enthusiasm, energy and hopefulness to our lodge and, without them, we will not survive. That fact being said, we hope that everyone is aware that
we offer onsite babysitting for each of our meetings and events. So pack up the kids and join us for lots of good food, great company and fun-filled times!!                  *SN*
