Kommentar (Continued from page 1)

If you like food, this was the meeting to attend.  We had an avalanche of open face, Scandinavian sandwiches.  We had sandwiches made from Norwegian salmon, roast beef, shrimp, liver sausage, sardines and eggs, Swiss cheese with red peppers, cucumber and limes, and anchovies.  We were also treated to some Marzipan cake and Edelweiss cake.  Wow!  Everything was so delicious.  Everyone seemed to go back for seconds, so I am declaring victory and saying that our meeting was an overwhelming success.

On Sunday January 28th Skjold Lodge joined with Leif Erickson Lodge to present a program to the senior citizens at the Bethesda Home.  Our Skjold members baked hundreds of different types of cookies and krumkake and we also bought some julekake and gave these to the senior citizens during the program.  The entertainment included dancing by the Leikarringen Heimhug dancers.  They performed a number of our favorite folk dances from Scandinavia.  The dance about snuff (snuss) always seems to amuse people.  After the dancing, each lodge presented a donation of $100 to Bethesda Home.  We concluded with our lodge members singing a number of favorite American tunes and a few Norwegian songs.  These included "Irish Eyes", "Yankee Doodle Dandy", "Nidelven", and "Hils Fra Meg".  Everyone involved seemed to have a great time.  So let's do it again next year.

Hilsen,

Gregg LeDuc, President
