Solveig Bender spent three weeks in Norway in June and July visiting five first cousins in Oslo and Kongsvinger along with a two week genealogy tour sponsored by the Solørlag of America.
The tour was designed for the members of the Lag to visit farms, churches, industries and family members in the southern half of Hedmark and the western portion of Warmland, Sweden. A special highlight was a two day visit to Finnskog days in Grue Finnskog south of Elverem. This was a living history and genealogy festival celebrating the "Forest Finns" - Finnish settlers along the Norwegian/ Swedish border during the 17th century who had a very different culture from the local inhabitants. At the genealogy exhibit Solveig met some "new" seventh cousins along with pages of new genealogy information dating into the 1600's. Both her parents are from Solør.
