Sons of Norway Foundation 2007 THANKS YOU
Thank you to all who donated to the Sons of Norway Foundation. In 2007 over $109,000 was awarded in scholarships and grants, an all time high. All twenty-six 2007 scholarship recipients have told us about the impact their scholarships made in their lives.
Every Lodge, including Skjold Lodge, receiving a grant has reported the positive results they have achieved because of Foundation funding.
The major objectives of the Sons of Norway Foundation are to provide scholarships, promote cultural exchanges, promote Norwegian heritage activities, and support humanitarian causes.
The Foundation was established in 1966 for the purpose of collecting funds by bequests, donations and gifts to be used for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational endeavors in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans. Contributions are accepted from individuals, Sons of Norway lodges, corporations and other organizations interested in supporting the goals and objectives of the Sons of Norway Foundation. The Sons of Norway Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Contributions are deductible on tax returns for United States residents.
Two other focus areas of the Foundation are: The Humanitarian Fund This fund offers emergency aid to our members, lodges and communities experiencing distress or disaster. Examples include over $100,000 directed to the 9/11 disaster and over $300,000 was provided during the Red River flood in 1997.
Helping Hand to Children A new project, Helping Hand to Children, provides matching funds to lodges for mentoring or tutoring children.
The scholarships, grants, and help for others were made possible in part by your donations to the Foundation. If you didn't give to the Foundation in 2007 or maybe never have given, please consider giving in 2008.
