SOCIAL SNAKK
By Lorrie Brenner and Judy Torgersen

A big thank you to Geri Hansen for bringing such delicious snacks, and Solveig Bender for putting together a great presentation on genealogy at our March meeting.  It was heartwarming hearing stories from Solveig, Kathy Secora, Ann Shabez, Kari Diesen-Dahl, Joe Bakken, and Jon Satrum - and now we all have information to get going on our family trees!

Perhaps in the future we could accumulate all the many stories of early settlers and family life that our members have (for those who would like to share these) and print up a saleable book to make available as a fund-raising project!

By the time you read this column we will have had our April Potluck meeting with the viewing of "Finding Thea" - a night of good food, a fine film, friends, popcorn and fun!

Spring is in the air, and with the warmth and beginnings of greenery all around us, I think it is a good time for each of us to take a minute to reflect on how lucky we are to be a part of Skjold Lodge--a group of friendly, caring, fun-loving people who are always ready to party!

Through the years, as each generation grows up amidst participation in events and enjoyment of our wonderful Scandinavian traditions and heritage, we see and feel the changes that time inevitably brings, and we try our best to understand and keep up with them!

And so, Judy Torgersen and I have accepted co-chairing as Social Directors for another year.  The events and presentations that take place after the business part of each monthly meeting are our ways of reaching out to you in the hope that something of interest will draw your attention . . . for with all our busy lives filled with family, friends, work, and other outside interests, we realize there needs to be a reason why you'd be willing to travel the distance and to make time for Skjold.  We understand, as we too, are pressed to find time for Skjold Lodge, but we are ready to tackle the challenge, because over the years we know that it is all worthwhile!

Reserve the evening of May 23rd on your calendars, where we will have the pleasure of a presentation by Anna Grinde on her experiences "Studying Abroad In Norway".

The following month, on June 27th, our President Wendell Brenner will give us a slightly newer version of his presentation from last year about two famous Norwegian artists: Sigvald Asbjornsen, sculptor, & Edvard Grieg, composer.

We hope that you will be able to attend some of our 2008 events.  You won't be disappointed. So till then, mange takk!!
